1.First things first! ALWAYS CREATE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT & Dedicated Space!

Try to Designate a quiet and peaceful area where your puppy can relax and feel secure. A great example is a crate or playpen to create boundaries and provide a sense of safety. This will also help with potty training and prevent destructive chewing while you're not watching!

2. Puppy-Proofing Your Home!

Just like toddlers, puppies explore the world with their mouths... Get down to their level and look for things they might chew, eat, or get tangled in:

  • Cover exposed electrical cords

  • Move houseplants out of reach (many are toxic!)

  • Secure trash cans with lids

  • Block off stairs with baby gates

  • Remove small or sharp objects from floors

3. Stock Up on the necessary Essentials Have these items ready before bringing your puppy home:

  • a large Crate (sized for a bulldog)

    Length: 30 to 36 inches
    Width: 19 to 24 inches
    Height: 21 to 27 inches

  • Stainless steel bowls for food and water

  • High-quality puppy food (ask your breeder what they've been feeding)

Us at Carolina English Bulldogs recommend Bil-Jac for puppies since it FATTENS THEM UP and makes them look adorable! it's what we give the mommas before they give birth so they have super healthy milk!

  • Leash, collar, and ID tag

  • Soft bedding

  • Chew toys and enrichment puzzles

  • Puppy pads and enzyme cleaner for accidents

4. Plan for Potty Training Pick a potty spot in your yard and use the same door every time. Bulldogs thrive on routine. Praise and treat your puppy after successful potty breaks, and be patient—accidents are normal!

5. Schedule Your First Vet Visit Book a check-up within the first 72 hours of bringing your puppy home. Bring any health records from the breeder and discuss vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping.

6. Start Socializing Early Expose your puppy to new sights, sounds, people, and other animals as soon as it’s safe. Socialization during the first few months can shape your bulldog’s temperament for life.

7. Make It Comfortable (But Not Too Hot!) Bulldogs can overheat easily. Keep their space cool, especially in the summer. Avoid long walks during hot weather and always provide fresh water.

Final Tip: At Carolina English Bulldogs, we start our puppies off with love and structure so they’re ready to thrive in your home. With the right preparation, your bulldog puppy will quickly become a beloved member of the family.
